Travel Guide for Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary

Bharatpur bird sanctuary is also called as the Keoladeo Ghana National park. This place has a wide range of flora and fauna. You can find thick marshes, jamun trees, babul and many others. The only saline soil woody plant, Piloo can also be seen here. The top birds to spot here are shanks, flycatchers, larks, popits, stints, eagles, ducks, cranes, pelicans, buntings and many others. You can find a lot of migration birds too.



How to Visit Bharatpur?
The park can be reached by bus or car from Agra or Delhi. The nearest airport to the sanctuary is located in Delhi and Jaipur. The nearest railway station is five kilometers away from the park in Bharatpur.

Best Time to Visit Bharatpur
The best time to visit Bharatpur is from August to November for resident birds and October to February for migration birds. The park is open throughout the year. But, during summer season, the lake in the park will be dry and you cannot easily spot any birds.

Entrance Fee in Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary
For an Indian citizen, it is 25 rupees and for international visitors, it is 200 rupees. You can drive into the park till Shanti Kutir which is 1.7 km from the entrance. The entrance fee for a vehicle is 50. Video camera would be charged 200 rupees.

Places to Stay in Bharatpur
Shanti Kutir is the only lodge that you can find inside the sanctuary. Outside the sanctuary, you can find bungalows and guesthouses. Bharatpur has many three star hotels, luxury hotels and havelis for accommodation.

Activities Inside the Park
Bird watching is the main attraction inside the park. You can hire bicycles to wander in the park. If you want a guide, you can hire a cycle rickshaw with guide and binocular service. Apart from bird watching, you can also find some interesting animals like chital deer, wild boar, Indian porcupine, gray mongoose, jungle cat, Indian civet and smooth coated otter. You can also spot python, monitor lizard, skipper frog, Bengal fox, hog deer and striped hyena rarely. Large predators are absent in this area. 

If you really want to spend some interesting time with nature enjoying birds, lakes, animals and trees; this world heritage site is the best place.
