A British holidaymaker would not have imagined in
her farthest dreams jumping out of a hotel building in Agra, world famous for
homing one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the great Taj Mahal. The ghastly
manner in which she resorted to this act was due to a feared sexual attack allegedly
by two men. One of them was the hotel manager, who has denied the charges.
In another shocking incident, a Swiss woman was gang-raped as she was on a cycling holiday with her husband in Central India.
Indeed, these nasty incidents have once again
surfaced the concerns of female tourist visiting India. Indeed, they have shocked
the Indian tourism industry to its core. The reactions from Indian officials clearly
show their unhappiness over the demeaning image of the overall Indian tourism
industry. Defending their bread and butter, they are abruptly dismissing the
concerns raised from these two incidents.
As investigations are going on and truth will be surfaced
soon, we at Travelogy India believe that such incidents can be prevented. One of
the most significant points emerged out of these incidents is that tourists must
understand Indian culture to its core.
With loads of advisories available on every aspect,
it is clear that tourists must adhere to the safety guidelines. Right from the booking
and following up, tourist fraternity must strictly check beforehand the
authenticity of the Tour Company or travel agent to be appointed.
